ACCESS TO GREATNESS (part 2): A LIFE OF SCRIPTURAL HONOR

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

(1 Chronicles 4:9-10)

The above passage is one of the most popular passages of the Bible. Books and articles have been written about Jabez.

Jabez, like many people, started his life in great difficulties. His mother gave birth to him in pain.

He had a rough start like many people do have some.

However, Jabez life turned around after his prayer. In his prayer, Jabez clearly asked God to keep him from pain.

Notice that before Jabez prayed, the Bible states that Jabez more honorable than his brothers.

Jabez Story starts with a description of his level of honor. He was more honorable than his brothers.

There is power in maintaining a life of honor.

Honor is a principle that opens doors and enlargement in life.

In 1 Samuel 2:30, God says: “I honor those who honor me, and whoever despises me will be cursed.”

In Proverbs 3:9-10, the Bible explains how to honor God: “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

In Exodus 20:12, God commands the following: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

Paul doubles down on the passage in Exodus 20:12 by writing the following: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy a long life on the earth.”

Honor brings enlargement and contributes to greatness.

Jabez started off badly but changed the course of his life by being honorable.

Maybe your life started off badly. Maybe you are currently on a difficult trajectory. Maybe you are in a comfortable position but you wish to enlarge your life for greatness.

Regardless of where you find yourself right now, practice a life of Biblical honor and you will be propelled into the greatness and enlargement that God has for you.
